The New York Mets have naturally grown up speculating about potential teams for Aaron Judge, but the Mets may have their eyes elsewhere.
Any team would be lucky to sign Aaron Judge, including the New York Mets, despite him being a direct competitor to the New York Yankees. However, the Mets doesn’t seem to be staged by the judge as he hits the market and follows some other stars instead, notably Trea Turner.
according to SNY TVSNY’s Andy Martino reported from GM meetings in Las Vegas that the Mets had been internally discussing Tria Turner for “a long time,” knowing he was about to get into free agency.
The Mets will have to pump a lot of money to sign Turner, but with Jacob deGrom access to free agency, they may be able to make it work if they don’t plan to re-sign deGrom. They’ll definitely have some tough choices, as deGrom is almost indispensable as a beginner and the Mets have plenty of room to improve their spin.
The debate over who would sign is limited to whether Turner or Degrom would be more beneficial to New York.

Degrom has long since pulled out of his contract, which has been expected since then He announced his intention during spring training. However, it puts the Mets in a tough spot because they now have to shell out more money if they want to re-sign him. While he’s worth a lot, it doesn’t leave much flexibility for them to sign Turner along with deGrom.
Turner will undoubtedly be a good addition to the Mets. He’s great both defensively and offensively, and although he mainly plays in a short span, he can fill in second or midfield as well. He’d also be great in the lineup and bring strength, an area where New York could definitely improve.
However, the team has obvious weaknesses in its rotations and roster. They finished the regular season with the seventh-best ERA (3.57), the 11th-best opponent hitting average (.236) and the sixth-best WHIP (1.18). DeGrom’s loss would be a huge slide back, as he made an immediate impact on his return from injury in August and finished the season with an ERA of 3.08, batting average for .175 and a WHIP of 0.75.
The decision between the two is certainly not an easy one, but they should continue to strive for a free star agent no matter what.
